SCENe and the Weather Station

This Weather Station is located at the Ribblehead Railway Station, close to the famous 24-arch Ribblehead Viaduct.  The historic and scenic route of the Settle-Carlisle railway  is one of the most spectacular in Britain, passing through lowland valleys and the Yorkshire Dales National Park before climbing to the dramatic mountain landscape of the High Pennines, then descending to the fertile Eden Valley and the City of Carlisle.

At Ribblehead station, a Visitor Centre run by the Settle-Carlisle Railway Trust, a registered charity, gives information about the building of the line in the 1870s. The co-operation of the chairman and staff of the Trust in setting up this weather station, as a service to walkers and others who enjoy outdoor recreation, is warmly acknowledged.

The weather station was provided in April 2004 and paid for by the Settle-Carlisle Railway Business Liaison Group (SCRBLG) to commemorate its reconstitution as Settle-Carlisle Enterprise Network (SCENe)

SCENe is a membership organisation open to all.  Its mission is to  promote the well-being of the communities, economy and environment of the Settle-Carlisle corridor by supporting enterprise, initiative and the infrastructure, in particular the Settle-Carlisle railway line

The weather station is powered by an Oregon professional weather (WMR-918) kit and weather view software both supplied by Skyview Systems. This has been integrated into a web reporting system using software written and supplied by Eden Valley Enterprises Ltd.

SCENe would be particularly interested in feedback from students, school groups and others who are able to use this weather station for educational purposes.
